Hyderabad born Abhinav Karan whose parents Dr Anish and Manjula relocated to the Caribbean from Hyderabad when he was just nine months old has been in the news in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago since the last week. He is the first person of Indian origin to have been named for the President’s Gold Medal this year. Speaking to us over the phone an excited Abhinav says ” I knew I was a strong contender, but I had not thought of winning medal. I was in disbelief when my friends told me the news.” The results of the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations [ CAPE] were revealed by Prime Minister Kamla Rersad Bissessar last Thursday and Abhinav says that this will be the most memorable among the several medals he received.
Though he has recently enrolled himself in the University of West Indies to pursue MBBS he has other plans. “I am writing several applications to universities in the USA and the UK My dream is to get into Harvard or John Hopkins” said Abhinav. Abhinav’s relatives in Hyderabad are really happy for his achievement and he hopes to see them soon.
